The Birkenhead River is located north of the town of Pemberton British Columbia in region 2. The Birkenhead is one of the more remote yet accessible rivers close to Vancouver and the Lower Mainland.

The river is of moderate size by West Coast standards. The river is swift, is frequently braided, has lots of wood and log jams, and also has some treacherous canyon like areas. The river bed made of wood, granite and basalt stones and boulders changes with every high-water event. This is what makes the Birkenhead River very challenging yet all the more rewarding for those that can figure out its secrets. Knowing the river intimitely can yeild rewards of 22" wild rainbows rising to the dry fly!
